Get Motivated and Make a Decision
This probably should have been my very first post. Unfortunately, it isn't so let's just consider this the first step within the tenth act. To volunteer, or even consider volunteering, you need to be motivated. That's the reason for this entire cite, right? Well, if you want any small prospective of how difficult these 100 acts are going to be (not for me, but the purpose of it), or even have just stumbled upon this website by accident, I beg you to read Ishmael.
I saw this book being handed out in my Language class and, like everyone else, groaned. Yet another boring, biased, meaningless book-- or so it seemed. I read the first 40 pages and realized that this book wasn't ordinary. We could learn a lot from it. So why am I practically writing a review for a book on a volunteer website?, you ask. Well, the meaning of just the beginning is the answer. There are loads of controversial meanings within this book. Let's start with a few of the stronger ones.
First of all, the unfortunate emotion regarding our environment. This world was not only built for man. Nature is not ours for the trashing. This entire life is not solely ours. Yes, lives must be improved! That's part of the acts of kindness concept; but not just human lives. Now, I'm not telling you that we aren't significant. Nobody can deny that humans are. I'm asking you to realize that just because humanity is important, it doesn't mean that we can go on our pompous ways thinking the earth is our pedestal (not that all of us do this). Please, in order to make a difference, let's use our influence to help what isn't ours.
Secondly, regarding humanity; the collective, general emotion of people regarding change for the better. As humanity, when faced with a need for change, some of us react with "yeah! Let's do this!" Which is fantastic, but do we? There are way too many people telling us that one person cannot make a difference. Those of us who are motivated say "forget you", but how many of us truly do? How many of us actually continue making a difference? Not enough, that's how much. So I plead that you truly do forget them. Actually, that you don't. That you not only get up and help make a difference, but you ask them to do so, too! It begins with one person: make that person be you.
The Giving Garden: 100 Acts of Kindness
With 100s of ways to volunteer these are only a few. The purpose of the Giving Garden is to plant some seeds of kindness in the 100 acts I will do. If we all get involved, we can grow the plants of hope, kindness, and happiness. Let's get started!

My Nineth Act
This act may seem incredibly insignificant, but for it to work I need your help. This act doesn't require your money, any transportation, or much commitment. This act is to simply decide to get involved. There's a website I've found that helps end world hunger while helping you learn. The website is:
http://freerice.com/
So what's the catch, right? Well that's what so great about this website, the only catch is that you actually have to learn. The way it works is this website lets you choose from diverse subjects and many, many levels according to what's suitable to you. A question is posed and you may choose from four answers and for every answer you get right, 10 grains of rice is donated. Spread this link around! It's a fantastic and easy way to study and help!

My Eighth Act
Volunteer For a Cause You're Passionate about!
For my number eight, I completed a volunteer application. While the huge step in making a difference in others' (and your own) lives is volunteering for a good cause, the cause itself is just as important. Finding a cause that you're passionate about helps you stay motivated throughout your volunteering period (however long that may be) Now, as for my application. I've submitted a form to CAT (Cat Adoption Team) in Sherwood; something I've wanted to do since I first saw the place (when I was about 7). To add to the fun, I'll be volunteering with my cousin! What greater motivation is there than volunteering for fun and with a friend? This is just another fun way to get involved. :)

My Seventh Act
A Child's Christmas!
On Saturday, December 11th of 2010, there was a Kiwanis Christmas event at the Joyful Servant Lutheran Church. I was volunteering as a part of Key Club (later happily appointed Key Club member of the month).
The event had several different stations where children could move to and from while having a fun time doing different projects; such as a coloring contest (where if you colored in a picture of Santa, you could enter your name into a drawing for an apron), snowflake decorating, donation jar decorating, letters to Santa (next which was a set-up with a snowy background, a gingerbread mailing box, and a UPS man), reading time with Santa, and more.
The kids had a blast and I definitely enjoyed myself. I moved from directing traffic into the room where the event was held, to the coloring contest, to the letters to Santa, then afterwords; cleanup.
Remember: There are so many little volunteering acts you can be a part of that are not only immediately gratifying, but fun for you! To enjoy your little acts of kindness, just keep your eyes open and be an active member of your community.

Key Club
Another small thing that I've done and you can do too is to join Key Club!
Key Club is a club based solely on volunteer work! If you're in high school, your school will most likely have a ton of clubs to sign up for. Check out Key Club! This place feels like a calling. I've already gone to one event (see next post) and was happily appointed Key Club member of December! This club gives fantastic opportunities to help out your local community, even can provide the necessary publicity, people, and supplies for your big idea.
The Next act of Key Club:
Building houses for Habitat for Humanity.
Remember: The Key is to find the right opportunities! Do not pass them up, even if they seem a little out of your way. You WILL be compensated AND grateful after the fact, even if it's not seemingly immediate.
Good luck planting the seeds of hope in:

My Sixth Act

I am making the leap of faith, from 100 acts of kindness to 400. 400 in several years. I bet you're a bit confused, how is she going to do 400 acts of kindness in a few years? Simple, I am going to knit (and team up with others) 400 scarves for the homeless. So far, seeing as I just began yesterday, I only have three. Starting on four. Want to keep updated? At the end of every week I will try to post the total amount of scarves:
Total:
27
hats
5
I will be making as many hats as I can but for now I will be focusing on scarves.

Beautiful!
The Little Beauties in Life...
Let's just take a moment to appreciate what God has graced us all with...
Let's just take a moment to appreciate what God has graced us all with...
I took these pictures the other day, when the sun was just starting to shine past the pouring rain. I hope you have enjoyed these as much as I have.
Remember: We have the privilege to see such beauty in life, we have so many blessings in our lifes that some may take for granted. So please, try keeping that in mind when you see somebody in need of help. :)
